Funeral services will be held 10:30 am, Friday, November 14 at Stephenville Funeral Home with Rev. Bill Grisham officiating. Burial will follow at West End Cemetery. Visitation will be 7:00 PM—9:00 PM Thursday, November 13.

Christine was born January 12, 1914 in the Jones Community (later renamed the Bays Community) of Erath County, Texas to Mason Overstreet Jones and Mary Melvinie Jane Sechrist Jones. She was the youngest child with eight older siblings and attended Bays public school until the family moved to Stephenville in 1926. She was a 1931 graduate of Stephenville High School, a 1933 graduate of John Tarleton College, and attended the College of Industrial Arts (now Texas Women’s University) majoring in Dietetics and English. After graduation she taught Home Economics and English at Huckabay High School for two years.

On November 29, 1934 she married Vern Odell Pendleton, and they made their home in Stephenville. She joined the First United Methodist Church in 1935 and remained a loyal member all her life, serving as a Sunday school teacher, a member of the Social Committee, and as Secretary and later President of Suzanna Wesley Sunday School Class. She and Vern had two sons: Jones David Pendleton and Paul Kyle Pendleton. She served as Office Manager of Pendleton Oil Company from 1954 until she and her husband Vern retired in 1983. They then enjoyed traveling to Hawaii, Europe, Panama, Australia, and New Zealand. Her husband Vern later died (at age 88) on July 18, 2000 after sixty-five years of marriage.

After retirement she enjoyed playing Bridge with her friends at the Senior Citizen Center, listening to Yellow Jacket games on the radio, watching football and John Wayne movies on TV, and singing at assisted living centers in Stephenville. She maintained her home in Stephenville until age 98; doing her own driving, shopping, and cooking. In June 2012 (at the age of 98) she decided it was time for a quieter life and retired to Good Tree Assisted Living.

Christine is survived by her sons; David and Paul Pendleton of Stephenville, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Vern; her parents, Street and Mollie; by five brothers, Henry, Clarence, Lindsey, B.O. (Dick), and Reecie; and by three sisters, Pearle, Rhoda (May), and Jewel.

The Pendleton family wishes expressions of sympathy be made in the form of donations to the charity of the donor’s choice.
