STEPHENVILLE (December 1, 2014) — Kourtney Seaton is only a junior, but her college decision is made.
Seaton, a 6-2 middle blocker for Stephenville High School and Club Texas in Santo, announced her verbal commitment to Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana Monday morning.
Seaton picked Northwestern after being contacted by 19 Division I programs and also visiting North Texas, Texas-Arlington and Abilene Christian.
“As soon as I got there I fell in love with the campus; it’s gorgeous. The coaches are husband and wife and really make it feel like home away from home,” said Seaton, who preferred NSU’s small campus and enrollment – 9,244 students including 5,577 full time. “I spoke to some people from the school, and their classroom sizes aren’t too big, so I won’t be just a number to my rofessors, I’ll actually get to build relationships with them.”
Seaton was a District 8-3A MVP as a sophomore in 2013 before injuries limited her junior campaign this fall. The Bees won area championships and were eliminated in the regional quarterfinals both seasons.
Seaton plans to study pre-pharmacy at NSU, but still has lofty goals for her remaining time at SHS.
“I want to keep my grades up and work hard with my teammates. We’re hoping to win a state title,” Seaton said. “I want to enjoy the rest of my high school time with my friends and make the most of it.”
Northwestern competes in NCAA Division I as a member of the Southland Conference. NSU won the recent Southland Conference Championship and opens NCAA Championship play against Texas.
