Sport: STEPHENVILLE (December 19, 2014) — Bayleigh Chaviers dropped 22 points and three other Stephenville players reached double figures as the No. 5 Honeybees (12-4) built a 19-point lead then held off No. 12 Kennedale’s late push for a 69-60 win at Gandy Gym Friday.

The game – a physical and often rough and tumble affair – was a rematch of teams that played eight days prior. Kennedale won the first meeting 46-38.

But not this time, and especially not with Chaviers dominating the pace, often at both ends.

The junior guard, who has committed to Miami (Fla.) for girls soccer, had six points during a string of 12 straight by the Honeybees to break a 17-17 second-quarter tie. It ultimately turned into a 17-2 run that fueled a 35-21 advantage at the break.

Stephenville led by 18 early in the third, and just as Kennedale scored four straight and looked to be gaining momentum, Chaviers scored five of Stephenville’s next six including a three-point play the hard way for a 50-32 lead. It was 52-36 after the third.

Breanna Wooley opened the fourth quarter with a right corner 3-pointer off a deflected pass, giving Stephenville it’s largest lead of 19. Wooley and Lariat Larner each scored 11 and Lyndi Graham added 10.

Kennedale outscored Stephenville 16-7 over the final four minutes, largely because Stephenville was just 5-10 from the foul stripe in the finishing stretch. It didn’t matter, however, as the Honeybees maintained a double-digit lead until a Kennedale runner just before the buzzer.

The Bees were coming off their first rough stretch of the season, dropping four of their previous six after a 9-0 start. While the teams are ranked fifth and 12th by the Texas Girls Coaches Association, Kennedale entered this week ranked 10th and Stephenville 11th by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches.
