Sport: STEPHENVILLE (December 22, 2014) — After helping No. 5 Tarleton State remain unbeaten following two tough tests in Las Vegas, senior forward Davene Carter has been named the Lone Star Conference Defensive Player of the Week.

Carter helped Tarleton limit Western Washington a season-low 65 points and recorded his seventh career – and second straight – double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds while blocking a career-best five shots. Tarleton won 72-65 in the first of two games in the South Point Holiday Hoops Classic at South Arena.

The next day, Carter had nine rebounds, seven of them defensive, and blocked two shots to help the Texans stop No. 4 Drury’s five-game win streak, 64-60. He was named to the all-tournament team, tallying 21 points, 19 rebounds and seven blocks in two games.

Tarleton is 10-0 for the second straight season. Carter made the LSC All-Defensive Team last year, when the Texans began the season with a modern-era school record 18 straight wins.

Tarleton is currently on Christmas break and hosts South Dakota Mines at 7 p.m. on December 30 at Wisdom Gym.
