The Honeybees jumped out to a 22-9 lead after the first quarter lead and maintained it the rest of the way in a 54-41 victory over 5A Texarkana Texas High in the 8 a.m. game Tuesday.

Stephenville’s final game in the event is 3 p.m. Tuesday against the winner of Katy Tompkins and Mansfield High.

It was the second straight day the Bees awoke early, and a much more pleasant outcome than Monday’s 8 a.m. battle with Amarillo. The 6A Sandies defeated Stephenville 71-30, and the 4A Bees also lost to 6A Mansfield Summit Monday, 65-44.

But they were on top from the onset Tuesday morning thanks to four first-quarter 3-pointers by four different players. Cassidy Cline, Lyndi Graham, Skylar Chipman and Kali Smith all had early triples. The Bees hit five times from outside the arc in the opening half before spending the second half shooting almost exclusively from inside.

Cline led Stephenville with 12 points while Graham was right on her heels with 11. Chipman had nine, Smith eight and Bethanie Bouchey eight. Lariat Larner scored six.
