Just before 7 p.m. Tuesday night Stephenville EMS and first responders were dispatched to a call at Traditions Hall on Tarleton State University’s Stephenville campus.

The university said the student was Camron Owens, who was a Tarleton State Texan football player. He was 21 and a graduate of Klein Oak High School in Spring. Owens had transferred in this semester from Cisco College.

“We are greatly saddened by this loss,” said President F. Dominic Dottavio, “and send our heartfelt condolences to his family and friends.”

Services for Owens will be announced as they become available.

Tarleton’s Student Counseling Center services are available for friends and classmates. The Counseling Center is located in room 212 of the Thompson Student Center, or may be contacted by calling 254.968.9044 to make an appointment.  There is no cost to meet with a counselor and everything discussed is held in the strictest of confidence.

According to reports, a male student was found unresponsive by another student who called 9-1-1. Campus police, as well as Stephenville PD, were also on scene. Reports indicate CPR was started before first responders were on scene, and once EMS arrived, the unresponsive male was taken to Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital in Stephenville.
