Dr. Rodney Schneider has fifth year added to contract with DISD

DISD Superintendent Dr. Rodney Schneider will have five years to continue his ‘momentum’ at Dublin ISD. The Dublin School Board voted (5-2) to extend the superintendent’s contract another year, thus making the current four-year contract a five-year contract which will last until 2020.

Schneider requested his evaluation, which would usually take place behind closed doors in executive session, be done in the open meeting. After reading through and accepting the summative evaluations from individual board members, Dr. Sue Lewis, Lathes Towns, Jeff Weaver, Kent Crouch, Charlie Bradberry, Pat Leatherwood and board president Mike Jurney discussed the possible contract extension.

The board did not look into or discuss the superintendent’s salary, which was increased approximately 16 percent during these discussions in 2014. The district’s contract with Schneider states the district will pay him $117,222 per year. Schneider also receives an estimated $9,000 in stipends and benefits including a cell phone and car allowance.

Lewis and Towns questioned the board’s proposed action of increasing the contract by another year. But Jurney, Weaver, Leatherwood and others all spoke about the success of the district in the superintendent’s time at the helm, and accredited much of that momentum to the administration and Schneider himself.

“I believe in Dr. Schneider and what he has going on here in the district,” Leatherwood said. “We’ve got great momentum going right now and he’s a large part of that. The students, the staff, the schools and everything is going well. I’m quite pleased with how everything’s going. I think this is just a vote of confidence in our district’s administration.”

When board members voted, a few community members who were present in the audience felt moved to voice their opinions. Schneider waited until the meeting was over to speak on the subject, but said he was pleased at the show of faith from his board of trustees.

“The board’s decision is a strong affirmation of the positive direction our district is taking,” Schneider said Monday evening after the meeting. “It is a show of support for every teacher, administrator and staff member at DISD. It’s not just about me, it’s about the commitment and hard work of the 183 members of the Dublin ISD Lion Team. It is a great day to be a Dublin Lion and to live in the great community of Dublin, and I’m grateful for the chance to continue to do both.”
