It’s that time of year again, local election time. During their regular meetings, the Dublin City Council and Dublin ISD Board of Trustees both call for the local elections on May 9, 2015.

Dublin City Council members have been discussing changing for a ward system to an at-large system since Mayor David Leatherwood took office two years ago. However, any decision made would not effect the current election, only the one after the change is approved. At the time of the meeting, Dublin City Administrator Nancy Wooldridge didn’t have enough information on the subject for the council to vote. She said she would present the council with more information at a later meeting.

The council did approve a motion calling for the general election in May. Council seats up for re-election include Mayor David Leatherwood, Ward 1 – John Johnson, Ward 2 – Bobby Mendez, Ward 3 – David Zinck and Ward 4 – Melvin ‘Mac’ McMullen.

Dublin School Board also approved a motion to call for the general election on Saturday, May 9, 2015. Board members are elected on an at-large system, meaning the three board members up for re-election in 2015 will run against anyone who signs up to run against them for the three seats up for grabs.

Those board members are Charlie Bradberry, Jeff Weaver and Lathes Towns. The DISD School Board President is appointed each year by the board members following the general election and swearing in of the new members to the board. Currently, Mike Jurney is the board president and has served as president for the past three years.

Community members interested in running can contact Dublin City Hall for City Council and DISD Administration Office for School Board.
