Meals on Wheels of Erath County (MOWEC) and the Dublin Senior Center have joined together to bring fellowship and food to area seniors. The joint venture is part of an effort focused on revitalizing Texan senior centers.

MOWEC Executive Director Whitney Lee said MOWEC is excited to be part of an effort to bring new faces to the Dublin Senior Center, which kicks off on Tuesday, February 3.

“The plan right now is to provide congregant meals on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the senior center,” Lee said. “And to encourage folks to come and see what all is going on and the various programs they have available at the center.”

Congregant meals are similar to the home-delivered meals MOWEC already provides to home-bound clients, except they are served on-site at the Dublin Senior Center. To be eligible for a congregant meal, clients need to be over the age of 60 years. Lee said there is also a little bit of paperwork to fill out.

“There is just a little bit of paperwork we have to keep tabs on, but it’s not very much at all.” Lee said.  “And we’ll have someone on hand Tuesday to help get folks get it filled out and get everything set up.”

MOWEC also works with City and Rural Rides to provide transportation services within Erath County.  So if driving is a concern for some, Lee said they can help get them signed up for transportation services as well.

Congregant meals will be served at the Dublin Senior Center each Tuesday and Thursday, starting Tuesday, February 3. Participants are not required to pay for meals but donations are always welcomed and will be used to keep the program going.

Anyone interested in finding out more about the new program or signing up for the congregant meals should contact MOWEC at 965-3510.
