(January 25, 2015) — Bobby Mote won bareback riding events long before officially making Stephenville his hometown on his PRCA profile.

But changing to the City of Champions – and the locally proclaimed Cowboy Capital of the World – certainly hasn’t hurt the four-time world champ.

Mote won the short go and the average at Denver’s National Western Stock Show and Rodeo over the weekend. He rode C5 Rodeo’s Virgil for 89 points to claim top money in Sunday’s finals. Along with winning the average and tying for fifth in the second round, Mote earned $8,063 at the event.

He wasn’t the only local competitor earning a nice pay day in Denver. In fact, he wasn’t even the highest grossing local athlete at the event.

Barrel Racer Shelby Herrmann made $11,382 after winning the finals in 15.34 seconds and finishing second and in a tie for third in the first and second rounds to place second in the average. Carlee Pierce was second in the first round for almost $3,000.

Jake Cooper of Stephenville paired with Tyler McNight to win the finals and place second in the average after also tying for second in the first round of the team roping. They each earned more than $7,500.

The all-Erath County team of Huckabay’s Charly Crawford and Dublin’s Shay Carroll were second in the finals and sixth in the average as each made more than $2,400. Travis Graves of Stephenville and partner Chad Masters were second in the second round for more than $2,600.

Chase Williams of Stephenville tied for fourth in the second round tie-down roping, and finished sixth in the average. When all was said and done, he earned more than $4,400.

Cody Ohl won the first round of tie-down roping in 7.3 seconds for more than $4,100.
