Sport: STEPHENVILLE (January 28, 2015) — Would-be business owners who have an idea now have a few extra days to enter the Entrepreneurs of Erath business plan competition.  The entry deadline has been extended to Monday, February 16, with two orientation sessions remaining.

Entrepreneurs of Erath (EoErath) will help entrepreneurs launch or expand a business in Erath County. Sponsors will award prizes totaling more than $45,000 for the best business plans, with prizes intended to serve as a catalyst to develop a new business or expand an existing business.

Cash prizes of $25,000, $15,000 and $5,000 will go to the top three business plans, with winners also receiving professional assistance in areas such as bookkeeping and legal requirements.

Hands-on business plan assistance will be provided in the two remaining orientation sessions. Prospective contest entrants are encouraged to attend one of the sessions, which will be in Room 172 of the College of Business Administration building at Tarleton State University. Dates and times are Friday, Jan. 30 from noon-1 p.m. and Thursday, Feb. 5 from 5:30 – 6:30 p.m.

The competition is sponsored by the Tarleton College of Business Administration, Stephenville Economic Development Corporation, Dublin Economic Development Corporation, the City of Stephenville, the Tarleton Small Business Development Center (SBDC), Stephenville Chamber of Commerce and Dublin Chamber of Commerce.

Winning entries must expect to create at least three new jobs in Erath County, agree to headquarter and operate primarily within the county for a period of at least two years, and have generated annual revenues of less than $250,000 in the past two years.

Tarleton SBDC has more than 26 years’ experience in writing business plans, and representatives will be available to assist entrepreneurs with all aspects of the competition. Additional training on how to write a business plan and tips for “pitching” the plan will be held in February and March. A list of training class dates and locations is available at www.EoErath.com

Winners will be announced at a luncheon on May 12.
