Even though 2014 may have been the year of the “selfie” photograph on social media, but a local group is encouraging Erath County residents to turn their cameras around and make 2015 the year of appreciating the beauty and history of Erath County.
Positively Erath! , a group of area citizens dedicated to celebrating Erath County, is sponsoring a photo contest of landmarks and landscapes, and everyone is invited to participate.

Spectacular sunrises and sunsets are almost commonplace in Erath County’s clear skies, and the varying topography and historical structures across the county offer a broad diversity of natural and architectural beauty. While photo contest rules are detailed on the group’s website, positivelyerath.com, it is to be noted that photos including people should not be submitted. The “focus” of this contest is on the landmarks and the landscapes themselves.

There are four categories for entrants: adults; children 12 – 17 years old; children 12 years and under; and professional photographers. Submissions can be made through the group’s website until February 27, 2015.

Professional artists will judge the entrants and select three winners in each of the age group categories, as well as one professional winner.  Winners will be announced on March 21, 2015, and a reception will be held for the ten winning photographs.  These ten photographs will become a traveling exhibit which will be on display across Erath County in public and commercial spaces throughout the spring of 2015. Harkening back to a simpler time, the only prize for winners of the contest will be the blue ribbon awarded to each, as well as participation in the traveling exhibit.
