DUBLIN (February 5, 2015) — It’s been a much better year for Dublin’s EMS. Last year, on Feb. 8, 2014, after many, many hours of hard work by Dublin EMS Director Max Smith and Dublin City Administrator Nancy Wooldridge, Dublin EMS was able to earn their Medicare number back.

The number was lost more than a year earlier when an oversight allowed the city’s certification with Medicare to lapse. Wooldridge and Smith set about to get the number back with the help of an outside medical billing service.

“We got our Medicare number back on Feb. 8 and were not only able to bill insurance companies and individuals for services moving forward, but we were also allowed to send out bills for the previous 12 months,” Wooldridge said. “In addition, Dublin EMS had provided mutual aid to locations in the county, so we were able to collect for those runs as well. In all, in the past year, we’ve collected approximately $165,000.”

At last month’s council meeting, the Dublin City Council voted unanimously to purchase a new ambulance for Dublin EMS and a brand new, state-of-the-art heart monitor. Wooldridge said Dublin EMS is one of very few departments with the city of Dublin that makes that kind of money to put back in the city’s coffers.

“We’re thrilled with being able to put that kind of money back into the city and into EMS,” Wooldridge said Thursday afternoon. “But that’s not enough to cover everything. Dublin EMS provides a service to the community and sometimes we have to go out into the community and ask for help.”

That’s just what Dublin EMS is doing now.

Dublin EMS fundraiserThe fundraiser, which is being held in connection with the Dublin St. Patrick’s Day Celebration and the Bull and Bronc Shootout Rodeo on Saturday, March 14, features chances to win four different firearms — a Benelli 12 gauge Nova shotgun, a Ruger American Rifle, a Ruger 1911 and an AR 15 DPMS Panther Arms. Winners do not have to be present to win, but must agree to comply with all state and federal firearm regulations and laws to claim their prize.

Tickets are only $5 a piece or five tickets for only $20, and can be purchased through an Dublin EMS member, at Bradberry’s Best, Stone’s Auto Supply, Miss Sue’s Cleaning or at Dublin City Hall. Wooldridge said if a Dublin resident wanted to purchase tickets, but couldn’t make it to any of the listed locations, they could call Dublin City Hall (254.445.3331) and arrange to have the tickets delivered.
