STEPHENVILLE (February 16, 2015) — Stephenville has a pool of about 50 applicants from which to choose its new athletic director and head football coach.

Interim athletic director Mike Carroll reported Friday night that there were 45 applicants, and superintendent Matt Underwood said Monday that “I’ve had two or three more trickle in here since then.”

Interested parties have until the end of Wednesday to apply, with the process of narrowing the field of applicants beginning on Thursday.

“The people on the committee can come up here Thursday or Friday to view the applications, and we’ll begin narrowing them down,” said Underwood who also stated he has added a ‘wildcard’ to the process. “Each member of the committee can also provide one name of someone they would like me to get in contact with.”

Underwood says plans are to begin interviewing selected candidates next week, with a lone finalist scheduled to be presented to the district’s board of trustees in a called meeting at noon on Friday, March 6.

“We hope to have this taken care of before spring break,” he said.

SISD is working to replace Joseph Gillespie, who left Stephenville for the University of Tulsa on January 23. He guided the Yellow Jackets to a state championship and six quarterfinal appearances over seven seasons.
