AUSTIN – A delegation of agriculture leaders from the Gyeongsangbuk-do province of South Korea recently traveled to Amarillo, Texas, to meet with Texas Department of Agriculture staff and representatives from the American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA) to explore opportunities for developing South Korea’s quarter horse industry. The meeting was organized by AQHA with the goal of building a long-term relationship between Texas and the Gyeongsangbuk-do province to help grow the province’s quarter horse industry.

“I’m excited to see international visitors landing right here in the Lone Star State to talk about Texas agriculture and its reach across the globe,” Commissioner Miller said. “Texas agriculture matters whether you are in Amarillo or South Korea, and our horses are among the best you will find. My team and I couldn’t be more proud to be at the table to discuss ways Texas can help our friends in South Korea grow their quarter horse industry.”

Along with AQHA representatives, Jason Fearneyhough, deputy commissioner of agriculture at the Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA), met with the six-member South Korean delegation, including Kim Chul-soon, DVM, manager of the horse industry support team for the Gyeongsangbuk-do province.

“It’s an exciting time in the Gyeongsangbuk-do province of South Korea, and I’m glad that TDA had the opportunity to meet with the delegation to share insight about American quarter horses,” said Deputy Commissioner Fearneyhough. “TDA will assist in any way we can to help meet the needs of our friends overseas and spread the bounty that is Texas agriculture.”

One of the goals for TDA under Commissioner Miller is to continue building international relationships and facilitating trade opportunities for Texas agricultural producers.
