STEPHENVILLE (March 3, 2015) — Stephenville is close to hiring a football coach.

A hiring committee has combed through external applicants and selected five for interviews. Internal candidate Greg Winder and two “wildcard” candidates will also be interviewed.

All interviews are taking place Tuesday and Wednesday, with superintendent Matt Underwoo planning to present a lone finalist for the position to the SISD Board of Trustees in a called meeting at noon on Friday.

The wildcards are candidates suggested by committee members. Underwood allowed each committee member – if they so chose – to suggest one candidate not among the applicants to reach out to.

SISD is working to replace Joseph Gillespie, who left after seven years as head coach and 21 total years on staff. He is now linebackers coach at University of Tulsa. He guided the Yellow Jackets to six quarterfinal appearances and the 2012 3A Division I championship.
