STEPHENVILLE (March 3, 2015) — Dr. Mike Leese has been promoted to Associate Vice President for Student Life at Tarleton State University, effective March 1, interim Vice President for Student Life Darla Doty announced.

Leese is being promoted from executive director of student life development, a position he has held since returning to Tarleton, July 1, 2012.  Leese originally worked at Tarleton in a variety of capacities, including nine years as vice president for student life, before accepting a position at Texas A&M University and later serving as associate vice president and dean of students at Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas.

“This title more accurately describes the important role Dr. Leese holds for the Division of Student Life,” Doty said.

Leese oversees the Tarleton departments of Residential Living & Learning, Transition & Family Relations, Texan Card, Conferencing and Events, University Police and Parking, and Judicial Affairs. He also serves as advisor to the Tarleton Student Government Association (SGA) and supervises new on-campus housing projects.

With a total of 46 years experience in higher education, Leese earned his doctorate in higher education administration (’83) from Texas A&M, and both a master’s degree in public administration (’80) and bachelor’s degree in political science (’67) from Tarleton. In addition to his administrative roles, Leese also taught for six years at the college level, including courses in social psychology, political science and student leadership.

In 1995, Leese was presented the Distinguished Faculty / Staff Award from the Tarleton Alumni Association.

Since returning to Stephenville in 2012, Leese’s wife, Sena, also a Tarleton graduate and former editor of The Grassburr, the university’s yearbook, is actively involved in the Stephenville community through the development of Backpack Buddies, now serving all schools in Erath County, programs in the First United Methodist Church, “Positively Erath” and she recently completed a term on the Tarleton Alumni Association Board of Directors. Mike and Sena have two children, Brad and Noelle, who spent most of their childhood years on the Tarleton campus, and three grandchildren.
