TWU wins, moving onto face West Texas A&M in the semifinals. Only the second time in the 32-year rivalry that TWU has defeated Tarleton twice in a season. First time Tarleton has been eliminated in the opening round since this tournament moved to Allen Event Center.

Karli Moore goes down head first on the court for the TexAnns, very slow to get up. Dr. Simpson, head of sports medicine at Tarleton and soon to be a Southwest Athletic Training Association Hall of Fame meber, comes out to help. Moore helped off, hopefully she still has some college basketball left in the regional.

Looking like TWU will win this one, and with Tarleton sitting on the No. 8 seed, it will be a nervous bubble for the TexAnns…. By the way, selection show Sunday evening, 9 p.m. at Wisdom Gym!

TexAnns are fouling to stretch this one out, but need to score every possession from here on out.

Erin Maxwell blocks Iwobi’s shot after it looked like Iwobi traveled. TexAnns running out of possessions now with 1:01 left.

TexAnns have to burn another timeout because they can’t beat the 5-second inbound clock. Ouch, just one timeout left.

And just like that, after a bucket and 2 FTs pushes TWU lead right back to 7. Tarleton calls a timeout.

Spector a driving two, TWU up by 5.

Iwobi, a rebound away from 9th double double of year, hits 2 FTS, cutting TWU lead to 3.

Thomas free throws cut the TWU lead to five.

Back to back baskets by Erin Maxwell from the left block have given Pioneers their largest lead of the game. TexAnns have 3 minutes to rally.

TWU has largest lead since Tarleton opened the scoring in the second half.

Downes pulls TexAnns within one. She just reached double figures for the first time in her TexAnn career!

Pioneers have scored last 4 for a 54-51 lead.

Iwobi leads all scorers with 15 points, Spector has 12 for TWU

Kathy Thomas with back to back steals, the second ending with an Iwobi layup for the lead!

Back come the Pioneers again, forcing our 12th tie with an And-1 play and ensuing FT

TWU ties it, but then Morgan Ashmore drains a 3!

Karli Moore ‘And-1!’ Gives TexAnns the lead, but she misses the free throw.

Emily Spector has 12 after a right elbow jumper, and we are tied for the 10th time at 42-42 midway through the second half.

Travanti Downes continues to improve her mid-range game. 17 foot jumper gives TexAnns 4 point lead, matching their largest of the game.

Breanna Fuller scores in paint, right block, and Tarleton leads 40-38 going into a media timeout.

Tarleton turnover leads to Specter layup for TWU, we are tied.

Travanti Downes just turned a likely turnover into a highlight reverse layup, TexAnns hold 2-point lead.

Karli Moore, another senior leader, kisses one off glass for TexAnns, then Iwobi is fouled on the way up. Free throws give TexAnns back the lead.

TWU is suddenly responding with 6 straight and a 34-32 lead.

With a 3-pointer earlier, Kathy Thomas became only 9th TexAnn to hit 100 career treys! Congrats KT!

Pioneers finally get on the board after Tarleton scores first 10 of new half. TexAnns up 2 with 14:34 to go!

Kathy Thomas continues to impress. Great senior leader for this team.

Indeed, Tarleton grabs lead on Wipff 3-pointer, better known around TSU as a Wipff-le-ball! … 8-0 run by TexAnns to start new half.

Second straight steal by Iwobi, maybe this time TSU gets the lead…

TWU being a little careless with the basketball early in 2nd half. Iwobi just got a steal and TexAnns have a chance to take the lead.

Put back gives Thomas the first five points of the second half as TexAnns claw within one.

Second half under way and Kathy Thomas drains a 3!

Tarleton travels on likely final offensive possession of half. That about sums up how it’s gone offensively thus far.

TexAnns take a timeout with possession, trailing 28-22, with 16.8 seconds left in first half.

TWU just hit 4th 3-pointer to lead by six late in half.

One big stat favoring the TexAnns is points off turnovers: TSU 8, TWU 0.

Through almost 18 minutes, Tarleton shooting 38 percent, TWU 35 percent.

Back and forth, back and forth, the early stages of this one reminds me of the overtime game Tarleton won over TWU on Super Bowl Sunday.

When Tarleton subs, it’s almost always mass substiution. Just subbed in four players, that’s a near line change in hockey.

Wow, now Ikpeaku Iwobi drains a 3! TexAnns back on top.

TWU 3! Pioneers answer in an exciting one so far!

O’Dell 3! TexAnns lead!

A leaning bank shot in the paint by Ikpeaku Iwobi makes Tarleton 5-12 from the floor, an even 40%

Meagan O’Dell is coming off two strong games to end regular season, scoring 14 points then 11. She just unloaded a nifty no-look assist to Breanna Fuller for the TexAnns.

Tarleton settling for jumpers, not attacking the basket. TWU stretches lead back to six.

Kathy Thomas steal and breakaway, maybe that will get the TexAnns going. Within four six minutes in.

A couple of 3-pointers, most recently by Emily Specter, along with Tarleton’s continued offensive struggles, has pushed TWU ahead 10-4 at first media timeout.

Tarleton has struggled to get good looks at the basket over first three minutes. Texas Woman’s playing tenacious defense. These teams split in the regular season, single digit margin each time. Winner faces top seed West Texas A&M at 6 p.m. Friday.
