Jackets split two while hammering away at plate

(March 14, 2015) — Stephenville hammered away at the plate Friday, scoring 24 runs in two games against opponents from larger classifications in Crowley tournament play. The Yellow Jackets defeated Denton 16-4 but fell to Crowley 9-8.

The Jackets were especially explosive against Denton, when six players had multiple hits including Josh Bulla’s 3-for-3 performance with two runs driven in and two more scored. Ben Martin also had three hits, going 3-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a run.

Bradley Morrison was 2-for-2 against Denton with three runs and an RBI, while Kaegun Williams was also 2-for-2 driving in three scores and crossing the plate once himself. Sam Webr and Maddux Conger were each 2-for-3 with a run, and Weber also drove in a score.

Maddux Conger earned the win on the mound, pitching three innings and recording all nine outs by strikeout. The senior Vanderbilt signee also walked six batters, but surrendered just one hit while yielding two earned runs and four total. Caleb Gibbons was perfect in one inning of relief, striking out two.

There were more offensive highlights in the loss to Crowley, as Brock Morrison, Conger, Bulla and Williams each had multiple hits. Brock Morrison was 2-for-4 with two doubles and three runs driven in.

The Yellow Jackets conclude tournament play Saturday.
