Tarleton Day at the Capitol planned March 24 in Austin

STEPHENVILLE (March 20, 2015) — On Tuesday, March 24, a delegation of students, faculty and staff will join alumni, administration and friends of the institution in Austin for Tarleton State University Day at the Capitol.

The event will bring together a statewide network of Tarleton supporters to meet with legislators and their staff members to increase public and legislative support for the university during the 84th Legislative Session.

Tarleton will have delegations departing from its main campus in Stephenville and its Fort Worth Southwest Metroplex Center early Tuesday. The day kicks off with an 8:45 a.m. breakfast complete with purple pancakes at Capitol Grill.

At 10 a.m., the Tarleton delegation will attend the Texas House of Representatives’ session when Rep. J.D. Sheffield (Dist. 59) is expected to recognize the university with the reading of House Resolution 1280 proclaiming Tarleton State University Day at the Capitol.

The Texas Senate, along with Sen. Craig Estes (Dist. 30), also will recognize the Tarleton delegation during a senate session at 11 a.m. with the reading of Senate Resolution No. 382.

A Tarleton delegation also will meet with Agricultural Commissioner Sid Miller and members of his staff in the Texas Department of Agriculture.

Following a noon meal, students, faculty, staff and alumni will participate in legislative office visits throughout the Capitol complex to advocate key points in support of Tarleton’s mission in advancing the university, sharing Texan Nation’s pride and expressing recommendations to maximize funding to meet the demands for a growing student population and capital construction project requests through direct appropriation and tuition revenue bonds.

In addition to Tarleton State University Day at the Capitol events, the Tarleton Alumni Association (TAA) will be hosting an Alumni Reception Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Dave  & Buster’s, located at 9333 Research Blvd. in Austin.

The Tarleton Alumni Reception is free and open to all former students and their family members in a casual, come-and-go setting. University President F. Dominic Dottavio will provide an update on university happenings and the TAA will hold drawings for several door prizes. Admission is free along with appetizers however, there will be a cash bar available.
