STEPHENVILLE (March 20, 2015) — Faculty and staff from Tarleton State University’s Academic Advising Center (AAC), Center for Academic Readiness and Success (CARS), Career Services, and Transition and Family Relations attended and presented at the annual Texas A&M Advising and Counseling Symposium, March 12.

Faculty and staff attending were Dr. Rusty Freed, executive director of Tarleton’s AAC; Dr. Brenda Faulkner, director of CARS, Alana Hefner, director of Career Services; Lathes Towns, director of Transition and Family Relations, and Mike Barnette, senior coordinator of Transition and Family Relations.

Freed, Faulkner and Hefner presented “Not College Ready to College Graduate: Holistic, Career and Academic Advising.” Freed, Towns and Barnette also presented “Destination: Retention and Success – A Regional Institution’s Approach to First Year Persistence.”

The purpose of the professional development opportunity was to collaborate with academic advisors and career counselors from within and outside The Texas A&M University System, discuss best practices and be introduced to tools and potential products, which could assist with improving student success initiatives at Tarleton.
