DUBLIN (March 25, 2015) — It’s been a busy year for Dublin High School student Cheyenne Holt. She’s a Dublin Lion Cheerleader, Lady Lion softball player and even participated in the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Rockstar finals. But an injury has changed all that.

While playing softball against Stephenville early this season, Holt was involved in a ‘pickle play’ and was injured. She was taken to the emergency room where a CT revealed something more – a nodule on her thryoid. And just last week, after another CT, she was diagnosed with thyroid cancer.

“Right now we are waiting to see if she needs another CT, with contrast, to see if the cancer has spread to the lymph nodes or other structures,” Bonnie Holt, Cheyenne’s mother, said Wednesday. “We know she will have to have surgery soon, and then radioactive iodine treatments, but we don’t know when yet.”

She also reported that Golden Chick in Dublin, where Cheyenne has worked part-time, has stepped up in the face of insurmountable medical bills. The local business is sponsoring a fundraiser for the Holt family.

Beginning at the start of business on Friday, March 27 through the close of business on Friday, April 10, Golden Chick (only the one in Dublin) will donate $1 for every single purchase made in Cheyenne’s name. Jose Duran, the manager of the Dublin Golden Chick, said they just wanted to do something to help offset the medical expenses they knew would come along with such news.

So be sure and get out there and feed your family while helping out another local family facing some tough times.
