(March 25, 2015) — It was only fitting a game featuring 28 runs would end with a big hit.

Sami Shaffer drove a two-run, walk-off triple to right field as Stephenville outlasted Fort Worth Country Day 15-13 in non-district softball action at McCleskey Field Tuesday night.

Shaffer, a sophomore short stop, was 3-for-5 with five runs batted in, while Emily Miller was 2-for-2 with four RBIs and three walks. Nadine Arredondo and Julia Flores also had two hits each for a Stephenville lineup that amassed 11 hits and nine walks while striking out only once.

Country Day actually out-hit Stephenville with 13 base knocks, but the difference was the seven strikeouts issued by Stephenville pitchers Rainey Boase and Flores.

Stehpenville needed the late runs after Country scored nine straight including four in the top of the seventh to tie the game. It looked as if the Honeybees would dominate early on, answering Country Day’s three-run top of the first with three in the bottom of the first, seven in the second and three in the third. It was 13-4 before Country Day began its prolonged rally in the top of the fourth.

Stephenville is home again Friday, when the Bees return to district play against Mineral Wells. Game time is about 7:30 p.m. following a 5:30 p.m. junior varsity contest.
