AUSTIN – Tarleton State track and field wrapped up competition at the Nike Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays Saturday with Chase Rathke competing in the men’s invitational mile.

Chase Rathke is no stranger to the big stage; he’s been a Texas Relays champion, conference champion, an All-American and a national champion, today he was once again in the spotlight as he was a participant in the Jerry Thompson Invitational Mile.

Rathke ran with the pack for most of the race, answering the change of pace at every instance with his own.

With 500-meters to go Rathke separated himself from the group of runners and made his charge for the lead.

The Crawford native would finish second in the invitational mile recording a personal best of 4:07.85 behind Christopher Gowell of Adidas who won the race in 4:06.28.

“I’m very proud of (Chase) Rathke,” said Tarleton head coach Pat Ponder. “He ran a personal best time and anytime you can perform like that at the Texas Relays it’s a great day.”

Tarleton will travel to compete in the ASU David Noble Relays April 2 in San Angelo.
