Lubbock bound: Jacket golf finishes strong, punches ticket to regionals

(March 31, 2015) — Stephenville fired the best round of any team at Holiday Hills Country Club in Mineral Wells Tuesday, and it earned the Yellow Jackets a second straight regional tournament berth.

Stephenville’s top four rounds added up to a team score of 326 Tuesday, two shots better than 6-4A champ Graham. Abilene Wylie scored a round of 340 to finish third, overtaking Brownwood, which fired a 358 to come in fourth after being tied for second with Stephenville after round one.

Final 6-4A team standings:

Leading the Yellow Jackets in Tuesday’s banner round was Clay Krause with a score of 78. Each of the remaining four team members were in the 80s – Colten Jeffress 80, Bunker Funderburgh 82, Luke Weber 86 and Jake Henriksen 88. Team rounds are comprised of the top four scores added together.

Jeffress led the Yellow Jackets with a two-round score of 167 and was fifth, with Weber one stroke back in sixth. Funderburgh and Krause tied for 10th.

The 4A Region I Championship is set for April 15-16 at Shadow Hills Golf Course in Lubbock.

Stephenville II finished sixth in the eight team event, and was led Tuesday by Grant Isham with a score of 88. He also had the team’s best total score of 188.
