(April 11, 2015) — Nadine Arredondo homered as part of a 3-for-4 performance at the plate, matched by the 3-for-4 of teammate Emily Miller as Stephenville added to the shakeup in the 6-4A softball race with a 9-6 district road win over Brownwood Friday night.

Miller and Sierra Varnado each drove in two runs for the Honeybees, who exploded for four runs in the top of the fifth to seize control with a 8-2 lead.

Brownwood cut into its deficit with two runs in the bottom of the fifth and one in the bottom of the sixth, but Stephenville pushed its advantage back to four with Arredondo’s dinger in the top of the seventh. The Lady Lions finished the scoring with a run in their last at bat.

Madi Crew was 2-for-3 and Morgan Diciccio 2-for-4 for the Honeybees, who collected 11 hits in the win.

Julia Flores was the winner in the circle, striking out five while allowing only two earned runs on seven hits including a home run. Each team committed two errors and yielded four unearned runs.

Paired with a Mineral Wells upset of Graham, the Stephenville win means everyone is within one game of the district lead just past the midway point of the 6-4A race. Graham and Mineral Wells are each 3-2, Abilene Wylie is 2-2 and Stephenville and Brownwood are both 2-3 in district games.

Stephenville breaks from league play and welcomes Early to McCleskey field in City Park on Tuesday. It’s Teacher Appreciation Night with the junior varsity beginning at 5:30 p.m, followed by the varsity at 7:30 p.m.

District play resumes Friday for the Bees, when they visit Mineral Wells.
