(April 15, 2015) — The 2015 Stephenville High School boys golf team is making a strong case to be considered the school’s best ever.

The Yellow Jackets turned in their best team score of the season Tuesday. In a classic example of peaking at the right time, Stephenville shot a score of 319 at Shadow Hills Golf Course in Lubbock, and is sitting fourth in the Region I-4A Championship entering the second – and final – round on Thursday.

The Yellow Jackets are 13 shots out of third place, with the top three teams advancing to state. Andrews is first after an opening-round 295, while Monahans is second and Decatur third.

Stephenville was led by Colton Jeffress with a round of 78. Luke Weber and Bunker Funderburgh were right on his heels with scores of 79 and 80, respectively. Clay Krause took 82 strokes and Jake Henriksen 96. The team score is the sum of the top four scores in each round.

Hendriksen tees off at 9:10 a.m. Thursday, Krause at 9:20, Funderburgh at 9:30, Weber at 9:40 and Jeffress at 9:50. The Jackets will be grouped with golfers from the other teams in the top four following the first day.
