STEPHENVILLE (April 16, 2015) — A Class 3A state champion is joining the Tarleton State women’s basketball team.

Sunnyvale standout Karah Sicurella scored 16.5 points per game to earn first-team all-district honors and a spot on the 3A all-tournament team at the UIL State Championship. She was also named all-state by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches and Texas Girls Coaches Association, and was a TGCA all-star before signing a national letter of intent with Tarleton.

“Karah knows what it takes to be a successful student-athlete. She is coming off a state championship on the court while maintaining a great deal of academic success in the classroom,” said Tarleton head coach Misty Wilson, according to a release from the university’s athletic media relations department. “We are blessed to have a player like Karah join our program.”

Sunnyvale, located just east of Dallas, was 37-2 with Sicurella helping to lead the way. In addition to her scoring prowess, she averaged three assists, three rebounds and 2.7 steals per game. She was a 58 percent shooter from the floor including 39 percent from the arc.

Sicurella is the first member of Tarleton’s 2015 recruiting class with the TexAnns on the heels of a 17-10 record and fourth place finish in the Lone Star Conference in their first season under head coach Misty Wilson, previously a long-time assistant and standout player at Tarleton.
