STEPHENVILLE (April 16, 2015) — The Tarleton State University Wind Ensemble, under the direction of Dr. Anthony Pursell, will give its final concert of the 2014-2015 academic year on Tuesday, April 21 at 7:30 p.m. in the Clyde H. Wells Fine Arts Center Auditorium.

The concert will feature the Granbury High School Wind Ensemble, led by Mark Eastin, prior to the Tarleton Wind Ensemble’s performance.

The final concert will feature student soloist Christian Lyon, winner of the Inaugural Instrumental Concerto Competition contest, held this past January. Lyon will perform two movements from Roberto Molinelli’s Four Pictures from New York with the Tarleton Wind Ensemble. Lyon is a student of Greg Ball, assistant professor of music and director of the Tarleton Jazz Band.

In addition to featuring Lyon, the Wind Ensemble will also perform a relatively new work by composer David Maslanka titled Liberation. This work, as was the entire 2014-2015 academic season, is dedicated to Sade Lowery. Lowery was a junior music education major who was killed in a car accident on US 281 as she traveled back to campus following the Labor Day weekend. A special collection will be held to help fund the Sade Lowery Memorial Scholarship. The ensemble will then conclude with a thunderous performance of Satoshi Yagisawa’s Machu Picchu.

Tickets for the concert go on sale one hour prior to the performance at the Fine Arts Center box office and are $5 for general admission or free with a valid Tarleton ID.
