ERATH COUNTY (April 17, 2015) – Meals on Wheels of Erath County (MOWEC) will celebrate 20 years of service and host their annual sporting clay fun shoot event in June with dinner at City Limits in Stephenville on June 19, followed by the sporting clay at Rough Creek Lodge in Glen Rose on June 20. All proceeds will benefit MOWEC and support local services for the homebound elderly.

Festivities will begin at 6:30 pm, Friday, June 19 at City Hall in City Limits in Stephenville. Guests will be treated to dinner, auction items and games. Tickets are $25 each or $40 per couple. Events include raffles, guessing games, photo booth and other activities for all ages. We encourage everyone to come kick off Father’s Day weekend by supporting area senior citizens.

On Saturday, June 20, the sporting clay fun shoot begins at Rough Creek Lodge. Participants will have their chance at 100 clay targets at a variety of shooting stations. Last year, participants were challenged by rabbit targets and overhead shots. Prizes for top shooters will be awarded.

Participant registration begins at 7:30am with the first flight beginning at 8 am. Registration is $100 per shooter, includes 100 clays and a ticket to dinner the night before. Participants under the age of 17 years are eligible and must be accompanied by an adult. Spectators of all ages are welcome.

MOWEC is also offering sponsorship packages at many levels. Sponsorship packages range from $100 to $1,000. Each sponsorship level offers special recognition during the event and the higher levels offer a chance to register up to 5 shooters, as well as a variety of extra benefits.

This year’s featured raffled has three pistols up for grabs: a Glock 22 .40 caliber, Glock 42 .380 caliber, and a Smith and Wesson E Series 1911 .45 caliber. Three winning tickets will be drawn with the first winner getting first pick of the three prizes. Each ticket is $10 or three chances for $20.

Meals on Wheels has served homebound elderly and disabled Erath County residents for 20 years and has delivered nearly 700,000 meals in that time. MOWEC Executive Director Whitney Lee said the organization relies on annual fundraising efforts to keep the wheels moving on daily home-delivered meal services.

“We delivered more than 43,000 meals last year to homebound elderly and disabled Erath County residents,” Lee said. “There’s no way we could have helped that many people without the support of the community.”

In addition to providing home-delivered meals, MOWEC also provides transportation services and liquid nutritional supplements to qualified elderly clients.

“Another huge part of what we do is to make sure people are ok,” Lee said. “It’s reassuring for our clients and their family to know that everyday, there will be a knock on your door and a friendly face there to greet you and visit for a few moments and just genuinely take an interest in your well-being.”

Proceeds from the fun shoot will help MOWEC continue home-delivered meal services and keep elderly clients off waiting lists.
