Mary Lawanda Johnson Waters, October 5, 1924 to May 11, 2015

Stephenville: Services for Mary Lawanda Johnson Waters, 90, homemaker, will be held at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, May 17, 2015, at Lacy Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow at Erath Gardens of Memory Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Saturday, May 16, 2015, at Lacy Funeral Home.

Lawanda was born in Stephenville on October 5, 1924, to Olin (Fred) and Mamie Sullivan Johnson. She grew up in Oak Dale, attended Oak Dale School, and graduated from Stephenville High School in 1942. She attended John Tarleton Agricultural College in 1942. When her family moved to California in 1943, she worked for Northrup Aircraft in Hawthorne. While in California, she met her future husband. She married Avas (Warren) Waters on June 10, 1944, in Stephenville. He preceded her in death on July 9, 2008. Lawanda attended the Baptist church and volunteered at the church as a librarian and as a Sunday school teacher.

Survivors include her children Michael Warren Waters and wife Mary of Stephenville, Mary (Leeann) Mittelsted of Caýon City, CO, Lori Beth King of Alvin; daughter in-law Cheryl Waters of Sherman; grandchildren Shannon Waters, Michelle Waters Hale and husband Bryan, Carrie Waters Osburn and husband Lee Jay, Martha Waters Brackin and husband David, Brandon King, Ray King and wife Brigit, Dr. Melissa Waters and husband Matt Singer, Kristen Kipling and husband Thomas, Lauri Bailey and husband Brian, and Matthew Mittelsted; 17 great grandchildren and 1 on the way. Lawanda was preceded in death by her son David Bruce Waters, son-in-law Rick Mittelsted, great-grandson Sean Bailey, sister Hazel Ruth Coffee, brothers Olin Johnson, Bob Johnson and her parents.
