STEPHENVILLE (May 28, 2015) – Tarleton State University is now offering continuing education classes for the community, with classes in Stephenville, Fort Worth and across the state.
Courses range from helping residents broaden personal goals to exploring art across Texas.
Live the List Project
A “Live the List Project” course is designed to help people set goals and focus on their bucket lists. Created for people running the quick sand of life, it is intended to inspire people to live a bold adventurous and intentional life. The course begins on June 1, running each Monday evening through July 6, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Taught by Drew Myers, the class fee is $156. Intro to 3-D Game Environment
In Fort Worth, Tarleton will offer an “Intro to 3-D Game Environment” on weekends from Saturday, Sept. 19 through Sunday, Oct. 4. Intended for those interested in learning how commercial game engines work and how game companies create 3-D games, the $350 course will be taught by Knut Hybinette, Tarleton assistant professor of fine arts. Class times will be noon to 3 p.m. each Saturday and Sunday at the Tarleton Fort Worth center in the Hickman Building, 6777 Camp Bowie Blvd.
Social Media for Non-Profit Agencies
“Social Media for Non-Profit Agencies” will be taught in an 18-week online program, September through December. Aimed at working professionals attempting to develop and refine social media skills, participants will earn a Social Media Specialist endorsement from The Texas Social Media Research Institute at Tarleton. The $500 program will be taught by Dr. Jennifer Edwards, assistant professor of communication studies and director of TSMRI.
Tarleton Industrial Development and Education
The Tarleton Industrial Development and Education (TIDE) initiative provides support and services to small businesses and manufacturers by providing professional certification programs, consulting services, and training programs for individuals and companies. Classes are offered in Manufacturing Quality, Safety, Six Sigma, NC Programming, Automation, Compositions, Mechanical Systems, Project Management and Drafting. EXPLORE
Tarleton’s EXPLORE program offers an opportunity to combine travel and education, providing trips and tours for diverse groups. A July 17-19 trip to Fredericksburg will explore Texas art at its finest, allowing participants to visit Texas treasures alongside local and renowned experts. The non-credit trip for art lovers of all types includes guided tours of multiple art galleries in Fredericksburg, while experiencing the town. Hotel reservations, meals and transportation are included. Participants must be at least 21 years of age and able to stand and walk for long periods of time. Space is limited. English as a Second Language Center
Tarleton also is hosting an English as a Second Language Center, operated by The Language Company. Program offerings include General English, Intensive English and Business English. TLC-Stephenville also is looking for families interested in partnering to host an international student. Families must provide room, board, transportation and other assistance and receive a stipend. Central Texas Child Care Provider’s Conference
On Saturday, Sept. 12, the Texas AgriLife Extension and Tarleton will offer the Central Texas Child Care Provider’s Conference. The conference, offered for more than 30 years, meets state requirements for annual Child Care Licensing for child care personnel working in home-based and center-based programs. Participants in the 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. conference earn six clock hours. The conference, which costs $30 per person, is held in the Lamar Johanson Science Building on the Tarleton campus. In Pursuit of Ethics
Tarleton will partner with the Fort Worth Better Business Bureau to offer “In Pursuit of Ethics” on Wednesday, Oct. 28. This interactive course will take you through real-life situations that will test the limits of ethical decision-making. The course, a great professional development tool appropriate for various industries, satisfies the three-hour Continuing Education requirement for Texas insurance professionals. The $75 course will be held from 11 am to 2 p.m. at 1300 Summit Ave., Suite 700, in Fort Worth. For information, contact CAOE at 254-968-9559.
SKYWARN Spotter Training
Want to learn about severe storms, become a storm spotter, or gain familiarity with reporting hazardous weather? The National Weather Service, in cooperation with Tarleton, invites the campus community to take part in free, basic SKYWARN Spotter Training classes.
