STEPHENVILLE (June 4, 2015) — A golf club in hand as if he was ready to tee off right then, well-known Stephenville resident and Texan Club founding member Perry Elliott had no trouble sharing what makes the Plowboy Shootout golf scramble unique and special.

“The biggest thing about it to me is the number of scholarships we’ve raised with this tournament through the years. There are a lot of scrambles that raise money for various things, with this one we raise money for the athletic scholarship fund so we can help more athletes get a college education.”

Elliott joins attorney Bob Glasgow as chairmen of the 24th annual Plowboy Shootout, set for Friday, June 26, at Squaw Creek Golf Course in Willow Park. Entry fee is $400 per team and all proceeds benefit the Tarleton State University athletic scholarship fund. Shotgun starts for the two flights are at 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. Golfers are asked to check in an hour before their tee time, and may enjoy breakfast beginning at 7:30 a.m. and lunch starting at noon.

“This is our biggest fundraiser of the year with all the money going to our scholarship fund, and I can tell you we would not have the number of scholarships we do if it weren’t for this event,” said Tarleton athletic director Lonn Reisman.

Elliott is an avid golfer and competes in more than his fair share of fundraising scrambles.

“This one is a whole lot of fun. We get together with friends and other supporters of Tarleton, and for some of them it’s the only time all year we get to see them,” said Elliott. “It’s a great course, we provide the food and the beverages, whether it be water, soft drinks or whatever else you like to drink while you’re playing golf.”

Reisman enjoys the reunion-like environment the tournament presents each year.

“It really is like a reunion. We have people come from as far as Houston for this thing, and they come every year because they believe in Tarleton athletics and have a vested interest in seeing us succeed, but also because they have a vested interest in our student-athletes and seeing us have the scholarships to help educate the leaders of tomorrow.”

Tarleton athletic officials are encouraging former student-athletes to participate in the event as part of an ongoing movement to more involve past Texans and TexAnns in current athletic affairs.

“We want our past student-athletes to come back and let us know how they are doing and enjoy a round of golf while helping offer other individuals the same opportunities they had when they were with us at Tarleton,” said Reisman. “Once you’re part of us, you’re always part of us. It’s like a family.”

Hole sponsorships are available for $100. The deadline for golfers and hole sponsors is Friday, June 19. To register to play or to sponsor a hole, click here. For a print friendly version of registration forms, click here.
