Dan Sweeney, 70, of Morgan Mill TX, formerly Southlake, was born in Bloomington IL on February 10 1945, where he grew up on a farm and attended Trinity High School. There, he competed in 4H with his brother, played track and football (playing four positions in a single game), and made life-long friends. Dan went on to graduate from Lewis College.

He married his beloved high school sweetheart (Annabelle) with whom he had three daughters. He taught them to dance the twist, play sports, appreciate the Cowboys, ride four-wheelers and horses, buy a car, change a flat tire, love nature, and play checkers. He encouraged them to look others in the eye and be a good listener, to cherish family, put faith first, and most of all to be thankful for every day.

Pops took extreme pride in his four grandchildren. In their presence he could be happily found crowing like a rooster or mooing like a cow. He hugged them regularly; read to them; showed up for their baseball, soccer, and football games, their cheerleading and pep rallies. In his final weeks, he proudly attended his eldest granddaughters high school graduation. Their Pops lives on through them. His 44 year career with State Farm Insurance included agency, district, and regional area management. He was dedicated to his clients, thankful for his staff, and rewarded by the relationships he built throughout the company, especially his district team.

With his gentle presence, Dan made strangers welcome and made friends for life. He drew you in with his sidesplitting wit and kind heart. For him any obstacle in the path was not an obstacle but the path itself. Every day was a new day. In his spare time, he enjoyed ranching, golfing, traveling with close friends, having coffee with the guys, teaching his sons-in-law to be ranch hands, and rocking on the back porch with Ann.

Daniel Edmund Sweeney peacefully went to be with the Lord on June 9. He was at his cherished ranch with Ann by his side, surrounded by family. He is preceded in death by his parents, Mary and Edmund Sweeney and survived by his wife, Ann Stevens Sweeney; daughters and sons-in-law Stacie and Roger Miller, Christy and Scott LaDuke, Sarah and Joshua Vore; grandchildren Lauren, Sydnie, Brett, and Caleb; his dear brother and wife, Pat and Ann Sweeney, treasured brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Our (tough hombre) fought the good fight every day in his four-year battle against melanoma. We extend our heartfelt thanks to the caring doctors and nurses at MDA and The Sammons Cancer Center. A memorial service will be held at White Chapel United Methodist Church in Southlake, TX on June 24 at 1 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Circle of Friends (for children with cancer). PO 374 Colleyville TX 76034.
