Stephenville (June 13, 2015) – On Tuesday, October 13th, Lone Star Arena will be full for the third year that it has housed the Choices Fundraising Banquet, and Kevin Sorbo will be this year’s featured guest.  Choices changed the format of their annual banquet in 2013 when they brought in Jep & Jessica Robertson from the cable series Duck Dynasty.  Last year did not disappoint with record numbers coming to hear from Governor Mike Huckabee at the 20th Annual Choices Fundraising Banquet.

“Our Board knew that by changing the model of our Banquet, we could get into a vicious cycle of trying to out do the previous year, and that would get expensive,” explained Ashley Graves, Executive Director of Choices Clinic & Life Resource Center.  “Instead, the leadership of Choices has decided to find different speakers from all different backgrounds that support the mission of what we do.”

As a strong leading man and a hunky Half-God, Kevin Sorbo brings a refreshing cadence to Hollywood.  Sorbo received international stardom when he booked the lead role in “Hercules, the Legendary Journeys” (1993-1999). Originally designed as a 5-movie mini-series, the innovative action show received a tremendous response and proved that Kevin was just what Hollywood was looking for. The movies were transformed into a weekly show and exploded onto the mainstream, passing up ratings topper “Baywatch” as the most watched TV show in the world, airing in 176 countries. Sorbo also directed and wrote on the series.

Sorbo has since played opposite Kristy Swanson and John Ratzenberger in the independent film “What If….”, which premiered in August of 2011. The independent film remained in theaters for 5 months on strong word of mouth and was nominated for Best Family Movie of the Year in 2011 by the Movie Guide Awards. Sorbo himself was nominated and received the Movie Guide Award for Most Inspirational Performance of the Year for his portrayal of “Ben Walker”. In 2013 Sorbo was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Riverside Film Festival.

In 2011, Sorbo starred alongside Dennis Quaid, Helen Hunt in “Soul Surfer”, the inspiring true story of teen surfer Bethany Hamilton, played by Anna Sophia Robb, who lost her left arm in a shark attack while surfing.  In 2014, Kevin Sorbo was cast as the leading antagonist for the movie “God’s Not Dead.”  His portfolio includes numerous movies and countless appearances on sitcoms.

Kevin released his memoir in 2012, “True Strength: My Journey from Hercules to Mere Mortal and How Nearly Dying Saved My Life”. The book chronicles his near death experience at the end of season 5 on Hercules. Suffering three strokes and the battle back to regain his life. It is an honest account of celebrity, personal tragedy, and the power of letting go. In 2013, Sorbo received the Public Leadership in Neurology Award from the American Brain Foundation and American Academy of Neurology for his work in bringing stroke awareness to an international level. Sorbo also received the 2013 Invisible Disabilities Association Inspiration Honors Award.

In recent years, Kevin has become very vocal as a Christian in Hollywood and what that looks like for him.  He explains how he came out of the “Christian closet” and began speaking very frankly about his faith.

With the Banquet less than four months away, Choices already has 50 tables reserved.  The event will sell out at 85 tables.  Tables may be reserved for $1,000, and include seats and dinner for 10 people, as well as the organization’s name in the program.  Individual seats that include dinner may also be purchased for $100 a seat.  Prices will go up after September 1, 2015.
