STEPHENVILLE (June 14, 2015) — Local cowboys recorded four wins on the PRCA circuit over the weekend, including another 90 point performance by Stephenville saddle bronc rider Jacobs Crawley.
Crawley didn’t have to go far for his latest highlight-reel ride, winning the Coleman PRCA Rodeo with his $1,452 ride on Stace Smith Pro Rodeo’s Grey N Away. It’s the seventh outright win of the year for Crawley, who also has two co-championships in 2015.
The Stephenville bronc rider entered the weekend fourth in the world rankings. He finished seventh in the world and sixth in the average in his fourth consecutive NFR appearance in 2014. He won the average in 2013 but is still pursuing his first world championship.
Stephenville tie-down roper Chase Williams won last weekend’s chapter in the Mesquite ProRodeo Series, claiming $1,090 in 8.0 seconds. Williams, striving for his first NFR appearance, entered the week 12th in the world rankings.
Morgan Mill heeler Dakota Kirchenschlager and partner JoJo LeMond, a header from Andrews, continued their recent tear in team roping, claiming first place and $2,659 in just 4.8 seconds in Coleman. Kirchenschlager headlined the domination of local ropers at the event. Stephenville header Luke Brown and Huckabay heeler Kollin VonAhn tied for third and $1,792 in 5.2 seconds, Stephenville heeler Travis Graves took fifth and $1,272 in 5.3 and Stephenville header Turtle Powell tied for eighth and $116 in 5.6.
Huckabay heeler Paul Eaves and partner Clay Smith won the Beef Empire Days PRCA Rodeo in Garden City, Texas. The duo claimed $2,826 in 5.0 seconds, while Huckabay heeler Kaleb Driggers tied for seventh and $942 in 5.7. Brown and VonAhn tied Stephenville duo David Key and Martin Lucero for ninth and $314 each in 6.4 seconds.
Stephenville tie-down roper Marty Yates secured sixth place and $639 in 9.6 seconds at Garden City. Yates entered the event fifth in the world rankings after finishing sixth in 2014, when he won at least a share of three rounds in his first appearance at the NFR.
Eaves also made it to Mesquite last weekend, tying for fourth and $581 in the team roping there. He entered the week 18th in the world standings, where Graves is 12th, VonAhn 22nd, Lucero 23rd and the surging Kirchenschlager 25th. In heading, Driggers entered the week 14th, Brown 21st and Key 22nd.
