STEPHENVILLE (June 16, 2015) — Dublin High School has a new girls basketball coach and Britney Helton gets to return to Erath County.

ad coach of the Lady Lions in 2015-16. She will be their third head coach in as many seasons.

Helton, 29, is a 2003 graduate of Stephenville High School and 2009 graduate of Texas Wesleyan University in Fort Worth. She coached three years at Boyd before spending one season as head coach at Fair Hill School in Plano.

“I can’t wait to be back near my hometown and family, and I’ve heard nothing but good things about the Dublin community and schools,” said Helton. “The facilities with three gyms and great locker rooms and the junior high and high school being together are very exciting, and that weighed heavily in me being so excited about coming to Dublin.”

Cervetto, a former Stephenville coach and junior high principal, has known Helton basically all her life.

“I had her in junior high and have known her family for a long time,” said Cervetto. “She’s a great person with great work ethic and is very passionate about her teaching and coaching.”

With a strong basketball background as both a player and a coach.

As a player, Helton was an all-state selection at Stephenville High School and helped Texas Wesleyan to its first NAIA nationals in 2004-05. As a varsity assistant she helped Boyd to back-to-back playoff appearances, and as a head coach of a fledgling young program led Fair Hill to its first-ever win on the hardwood.

“I feel like Britney will be a great fit here in Dublin and will be an effective leader for our girls,” said Cervetto.

Helton replaces Ariana Rodriguez, who was in Dublin two years, one as head softball coach and one as head basketball coach. Rodriguez, a 2013 Tarleton graduate and former TexAnn softball standout, left Dublin for 4A Center.
