STEPHENVILLE (June 20, 2015) — It’s an air tight race atop the men’s team standings at the 2015 College National Finals Rodeo, and though Tarleton State relinquished its narrow lead Friday evening, the Texans enter the Saturday short go right in the mix for the national championship.

Tarleton slipped from first to third Friday night despite senior heeler Landon Williams and partner Casey Tew of Weatherford College posting a PRCA-esque 4.7-second run to win the third round of team roping. They are fourth in the average entering the short go, and Williams also leads the tie-down roping and all-around standings. He has scored 140 points in tie-down and 120 in team roping for 260 total individual points, a whopping 95 more than Clark Adcock of Tennessee-Martin.

Tarleton competitors have combined for 445 points, but because only six can compete for team scoring, the Texans actually have 420 and are in third behind Missouri Valley College and Panhandle State, each with 435.

Tarleton is fifth in the women’s standings with 205 points. Eastern New Mexico leads with 290. Leading the TexAnns is Shelby Herrmann, who is splitting third and fourth in the barrel race, using 42.39 seconds to complete three runs. She was second with a blistering 13.75 in round three, also the second-fastest time of this CNFR. Entering the short go, Herrmann is just one-hundredth of a second out of second and 11 hundredths of a tick off the lead.

Baili Collins of Tarleton is 11th in goat tying with a three-run total time of 21.2.
