STEPHENVILLE (June 22, 2015) — Stephenville is beginning the search for a new baseball coach after the resignation of James Boxley the Flash confirmed late Monday.
“I’ve accepted the had baseball job at Tyler Lee,” said Boxley in reply to a text message. He was not immediately available to speak.
Stephenville athletic director Alan Haire said Boxley turned in his resignation to high school principal Stephanie Traweek on Friday, and that Boxley had contacted him to inform him personally. Haire said he understands Boxley will have the opportunity to coach baseball without teaching requirements.
Boxley guided five playoff trips in five years at Stephenville, where he won more than 100 games. He led the Yellow Jackets to their first-ever regional finals appearance in 2013. Stephenville fell to Venus in a best-of-three area-round series this year.
Haire said the opening at Stephenville was posted as soon as possible.
“It’s kind of late in the game, but we already have it posted and we’ll see who we get to apply and begin the process of finding the best coach and leader for our kids,” Haire said.
Robert E. Lee High School in Tyler made the playoffs this season before being swept by Belton in the opening round. Lee has more than 2,500 students according to the UIL rank order.
“We hate to lose him,” said Haire. “He had a great run here and certainly deserves this opportunity.”
