RANGER, Texas – After spending the past two seasons helping Iowa Western Community College become one of the top volleyball programs in the nation, assistant coach Brent Lewis felt he was ready to create a powerhouse of his own. Ranger College couldn’t have been more thrilled.

Ranger College President Dr. William Campion recently announced Lewis has been hired to take over a Lady Rangers’ program that has won just 11 North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference bouts since 2011.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Brent Lewis as the new head coach of the Lady Rangers,” said Campion. “We are looking forward to a bright future with Coach Lewis at the helm.”

A native of Marshall, Texas, Lewis said he is excited about the prospect of building Ranger into a NJCAA power. The talent already on hand, combined with a strong incoming freshman class, should enable the Lady Rangers to compete this season.

“I think we’re going to do a lot of good things this year,” said Lewis. “We expect to have a big year.”

Lewis knows a thing or two about big years. During his two years at Iowa Western, the team posted an 89-7 record and advanced to the NJCAA national volleyball championship tournament twice.

Prior to joining Iowa Western, he spent two seasons at Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene as an assistant. The HSU girls won two American Southwest Conference titles during his tenure

At Ranger, Lewis will be taking over a young RC squad that went 3-9 in NTJCAC play a year ago. Overall, the Lady Rangers posted a 12-19 mark in 2014.

The Lady Rangers will tip off the 2015 season in August.
