STEPHENVILLE (June 24, 2015) — Lt. Col. Marty R. Deckard assumed responsibility for Tarleton State University’s Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) within the Department of Military Science on April 1. He serves as Professor of Military Science under the direction of Col. Kenny Weldon, head of the department.
Prior to coming to Tarleton, Deckard spent three years with the 94th Army Air and Missile Defense Command located at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Hawaii, where he supervised the day-to-day ballistic missile defense operations of the Pacific region and continental United States.
Deckard was commissioned into the Field Artillery upon graduating from the University of Kansas in 1995. A combat veteran in both Iraq and Afghanistan, he has served in operational assignments in the 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas; 212th Fires Brigade, Fort Sill, Okla.; the National Training Center, Fort Irwin, Calif.; and the 10th Mountain Division, Fort Drum, N.Y.
Deckard earned a bachelor of science degree in architectural engineering from the University of Kansas and a master of business administration from Webster University. His military education includes the Field Artillery Officer Basic Course, Field Artillery Captains Career Course and the United States Army Command and General Staff College.
Deckard’s awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal (with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster), the Meritorious Service Medal (with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters), the Army Commendation Medal (with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters), the Army Achievement Medal (with 4 Oak Leaf Clusters), Afghanistan Campaign Medal (with 3 Campaign Stars), Iraq Campaign Medal (with 1 Campaign Star), the Overseas Service Ribbon (4th Award), the Korean Defense Service Medal, the NATO Medal (with 1 Bronze Star), the Combat Action Badge and the Army Parachutist Badge.
Deckard is married to the former Dana Bailey of Godley, Texas. They have three children: Mitchell, Morgan and Mark.
