Mrs. Eva Thomas peacefully entered heaven on July 11, 2015 at the age of 96 while being cared for by her daughter, Noel T. Martin.
Eva was born in the town of Locker in San Saba County, on November 8, 1918. Eva was the second-oldest child of four daughters born to Grover and Lela (Gist) Renfroe. She grew up in Corpus Christi, Texas and graduated from a local high school in 1936. She attended University of Mary Hardin-Baylor on a music scholarship.
Eva married Bernard Franklin (B.F.) Thomas of Woodsboro, Texas on October 15, 1939 at Park Avenue Baptist Church in Corpus Christi. Eva lived with her husband in Corpus Christi until 1968, when they moved to Hico, Texas.
Eva was a volunteer church pianist for 80 years beginning at the age of 13. She was honored for 75 years of service by First Baptist Church in Hico and then played three more years before retiring due to vision loss. Eva also played piano for the Community Choir of Hico and for residents of the Hico Nursing Home and Honey Creek Assisted Living. She was also given the first Unity Award from the Hico First Baptist Church. In addition, she was a member of the Hico Review Club for 30 years and president of the club twice. Eva was also the first Branch Manager of the Stephenville Sunbelt Savings and Loan Branch in Hico.
Eva was preceded in death by her husband, B.F., in 1997 after 58 years of marriage, and her sisters Geraldine Martin of Hico, Texas and June McIntyre of Wilmington, North Carolina.
Eva is survived by her devoted daughter, Noel T. Martin of Hico, Texas; her beloved sister, Patricia (Kimball) Miller of Ft. Davis, Texas; and four grandchildren who deeply miss their Nonnie, including Letitia (Ray) Willis, Rebekah Martin (Ginger Erickson), Michael (Amanda) Martin, and Angela (EJ) Chambers. Eva’s surviving great-grandchildren include Caitlyn, Connor, and Courtney Willis; Sadie Martin-Erickson; and Bailey and Brayden Martin. Eva is survived by many other beloved relatives and friends.
Many of Eva’s church family members remember her precious Pomeranian dog, Tucker, whose ashes will be buried with her in the casket. The visitation and viewing will be held on Tuesday, July 14 at 6:00 p.m. at the Harvest Hills Funeral Home in Hico, Texas. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 15 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Hico, Texas, with Reverend Dace Clifton officiating. Eva will be buried next to her beloved husband, parents, and sister in the Hico Cemetery under the direction of Harvest Hills Funeral Home.

Service Information

Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 13, 2015, at Harvest Hills Funeral Home, located at 118 Second Street in Hico. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. in the First Baptist Church of Hico, with burial to follow in the Hico Cemetery.
