STEPHENVILLE (July 14, 2015) — Stephenville High School star Julia Flores and incoming freshman Jessica Howell fueled the Stephenville shock to a 7-2 victory over the host Corsicana Rampage to begin play in the Texas Teenage Softball U-15 State Softball Tournament Monday.

The Shock return to the field at 8 p.m. Tuesday for a battle against Grand Saline.

Flores, voted by head coaches as the newcomer of the year in District 4-4A as a freshman last spring, has carried her pitching success over to the summer months, and that continued Monday when she surrendered just two runs on five hits.

Howell, part of a strong group of incoming freshmen that Stephenville High School coach Rus Mayes believes will bolster the varsity lineup next spring, hit a home run Monday. It was a two-run shot that opened up a 5-1 third-inning lead.
