Elmer Eugene Leatherman

Elmer Eugene Leatherman, 86, of Stephenville, passed away Thursday, July 16, 2015 in Stephenville.Funeral Services will be held at 2:30 pm Sunday, July 19, 2015 at the Stephenville Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at the West End Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm Saturday at the funeral home.

Elmer was born on November 26, 1928 in Stephenville to the late Printess Dee and Oda Howeth Leatherman. He married the love of his life Eva Lavonne Tarpley on January 19, 1949 in Tolar, Texas and together they had two daughters. Elmer was raised and resided in the Cedar point community in Erath County, working as a Mechanic for the Texas Department of Transportation where he retired after 30 years of service. He was a longtime member of Valley Grove Baptist Church in Stephenville. He enjoyed spending time at the flea markets and making and selling crafts. He also loved farming and raising cattle.

Elmer is survived by his wife of 66 years, Eva; daughters, Cynthia Thornell, and Sharon McCarty and husband, Jerry; five grandchildren, John Mark Thornell and wife Wendy, Krissa Brewer and husband Chris, Lisa Mayfield and husband Dallas, Nikki Ringo, and Brandon Thornell; great-grandchildren, Alex and Austin Ringo, Abby and Jake Thornell, Paige and Ethan Mayfield, Weston Brewer, Lily Thornell, Jake Ringo, Lauren and Lillian Brewer; brother, W.L.’Dub’ Leatherman and wife Carol; and sister, Shirley Davis.
