STEPHENVILLE (July 16, 2015) — Heads-up motorists. A new four-way stop has been installed at the intersection of West Vanderbilt and North Neblett streets within the campus of Tarleton State University. Motorists are asked to be aware of this change as they drive through campus and through this intersection.
Last week, the city of Stephenville’s Public Works Department erected new stop signs where the 1200 block of W. Vanderbilt and 600 block of N. Neblett streets intersect adjacent to Bosque Crossing Apartments and Tarleton’s Physical Plant.
The new signage went up July 2 and will remain permanently, according to city representatives.
“There is currently a considerable amount of construction and a number of changes occurring within our campus community,” said Tarleton Police Lt. Al Allcon. “Drivers, bicyclists and pedestrians should use extra caution when traversing around our campus during the coming weeks. We urge everyone to be alert in this intersection as the signage is new and motorists are becoming accustomed to the new four-way stop signs.”
University officials requested the new stop signs as a traffic-control measure and to improve safety for pedestrians, said Stephenville Chief of Police Jason King. “We anticipate placing marked crosswalks at the intersection in the future as part of the new traffic-control measure. When we discussed ways to improve pedestrian safety at the intersection of Vanderbilt and Neblett, we determined it would need to include a traffic control device such as the new stop signs.”
