Erath County athletes earn paydays in Snake River Stampede

(July 18, 2015) — While the bulk of the rodeo world focuses its attention on California Rodeo Salinas and Cheyenne Frontier Days, the Snake River Stampede in Nampa, Idaho is no slouch itself with a total payout of more than $376,000.

Local athletes haven’t forgotten Nampa, where Huckabay header Charly Crawford and Dublin heeler Shay Carroll needed 4.5 seconds to split top money – $2,329 each – in the first round of the team roping. Stephenville header Billy Bob Brown was third in the first round, earning $1,842 in 4.8. Stephenville header Turtle Powell was split sixth and seventh in 5.1 for $704.

Huckabay heeler Paul Eaves is the top local roper in the ongoing second go-round. He’s currently third in 4.6 seconds.

Cort Scheer scored 82 points and is tied for fourth in the ongoing saddle bronc riding. Chase Williams split fourth through seventh in 8.3 seconds to earn $1,554 in the opening round of the tie-down roping.

Stephenville and Tarleton barrel racer Shelby Herrmann continued her torrid pace with a run of 15.84 seconds, currently placing her second.

Stephenville team ropers David Key and Martin Lucero have been on fire lately and pocketed another $838 each for placing second in 5.7 seconds in the first round at Woodward Elks Rodeo in Woodward, Okla. They are currently sixth in the average.
