ERATH COUNTY (July 27, 2015) — Commissioners handled a number of much-needed housekeeping items in the regular meeting of the Erath County Commissioners’ Court Monday morning.
The court heard from Erath County Emergency Management Coordinator John Wooley, who recommended Emerald Isle Roofing to repair the roof of the Erath County Courthouse in Stephenville and the annex in Dublin. Wooley reported Emerald Isle was the company that originally install both roofs, therefore had prior knowledge of the job, and were approved by TAC Pool, who was granting the county funds for the repairs.
“The repairs to the courthouse will include the possible replacement of 450 damaged tiles in the roof at a cost of approximately $39,500. These are the tiles we have stored with Precinct 3 that were special ordered with the rest of the original roof from Germany,” Wooley said. “The repairs to the Dublin Annex will include replacement of several sections of the roof and possibly the wooden panels underneath at a cost of approximately $42,000.”
Commissioners approved the recommendation unanimously.
Precinct 4 Commissioner Scot Jackson requested permission to purchase a haul truck at Ritchie Bros. Auction, and exceptions to the purchasing policy for a used haul truck and a belly dump trailer. He told his fellow commissioners that the funds would come from his budget, which he had planned on.
“I have all the funds in my budget for these items,” Jackson said. “I’m still looking for the best deals, but I wanted to have permission so I don’t miss out once I do find good deals.”
The court granted Jackson’s requests, as well as a request to clear a fence row on County Road 136 in the northern part of the county. He said there was flood damage from recent storms and clearing the row would help drainage in the area.
Commissioners also heard from County Judge Tab Thompson, County Auditor Janet Martin and District Clerk Wanda Pringle concerning bids on vending machine services in the courthouse annex. Pringle reported the current supplier was difficult to work with and was slow to remove products from the machines that were past the posted sale-by date. She also told the court that her past experience with ML Phinney was much better and that the product selection was better. The court unanimously approved Phinney’s bid for vending services.
In other business, commissioners approved adding Aces Clean Energy, LLC as a sole-source vendor, approved a general ledger line for Court-At-Law Jury Meals, deemed old helmets from the fire department and old uniforms from the EMS department of zero value, approved an Interlocal Agreement with the North Central Texas Council of Governments for 911 service, equipment, addressing and database maintenance for two years and granted Martin permission to pay a 2014 invoice with funds from the 2015 budget.
