STEPHENVILLE (July 31, 2015) — Tarleton continues to grow, and with that growth comes expansion and construction – this time across Washington Street.

According to a university email, the Texas Department of Transportation will begin installing crosswalks at the intersections of Washington and Lillian Street and Washington Street and Harbin Drive on Monday, August 3. University officials said they expect the work to last three weeks and TXDOT recommends avoiding the area and seeking alternate routes until the work is completed.

“Tarleton employees should expect delays along Washington in the area of Harbin and Lillian during this project,” the email, which was sent out Friday morning, said. “At times, the traffic signals will be shut down and the intersections will revert to stop sign control. For part of the work, Lillian will be closed south of Washington Street.”

University officials said these crosswalks will “provide grater safety in crossing Washington from the university’s parking lots south of Washington Street.”

City of Stephenville, Tarleton State and TXDOT officials all ask that motorist use extreme caution when traveling in the area as crews will be working to complete the project as quickly as possible. If you can, do not drive in the area during the project (estimated Aug. 3-25).
