Alleged drunk driver faces two more felony charges in tragic crash that took a Lingleville senior’s leg

STEPHENVILLE (August 7, 2015) — And the saga continues as word was released today that Dustin “Dusty” Brian Bulman, 25, who was arrested and charged with intoxication assault in the accident that left Lupita Govea in the hospital and her sister-in-law with a broken leg, will face two more, second degree felony charges. Stephenville Police Department officials say he was arrested again and is being charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, second degree felonies (warrant service) Thursday, August 6.

Stephenville PD officials said the charges were not new, but stemming from the traffic accident that occurred on S. Lillian Street the night of July 23. And while not all the details of what led up to the incident are available, this much is clear – Govea, 19 of Lingleville, and another victim were hit by a white Mercedes driven by Bulman, and the accident severed Govea’s leg. She was taken by CareFlite out of Hood County to a Fort Worth hospital where family members report she has undergone several surgeries and is beginning her recovery process.

According to Stephenville Police Assistant Chief Jason Halsey, at approximately 11 p.m. on Thursday, July 23, Stephenville PD officers, Stephenville Fire and Stephenville EMS were dispatched to the 700 block of South Lillian Street in reference to a report of a vehicle accident involving a person being run over. Halsey said two patients were transported to Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital in Stephenville. One of them was Bulman, who was treated and released to law enforcement officers. Bulman was arrested and booked into the Erath County Jail on two counts of intoxication assault. He has two previous charges for driving while intoxicated, among numerous other charges. He now faces the two charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon as well.

Since the time of the accident, community members have come out in force to support Govea, who will be a senior year at Lingleville ISD this year, having car washes, bake sales and other fundraisers in her name. Family members of Govea say they appreciate all the thoughts and prayers from the community as they rally around her during this time.
