STEPHENVILLE – Tarleton State is playing the University of Texas.

Yes, that Texas. As in the Longhorns, Austin, the Frank Erwin Center and new head coach Shaka Smart.

The game will take place November 6 at the Erwin Center at a time to be announced. It will be the first game for Texas under Smart, who was hired away from Virginia Commonwealth after Texas fired Rick Barnes.

Texas was was 20-13 overall but finished seventh in the Big 12 last season.

Tarleton reached the NCAA Division II Elite Eight and “final four” last season, amassing a modern-era school-record 31 wins. Veteran Lonn Reisman has 589 wins at Tarleton, the most of any college coach in Texas.
